Why us

Why homeowners call us for smoke odor removal

Smoke odor is the part of a fire that outlasts everything else. The walls get painted, the flooring goes back, and months later a warm day or the heating coming on brings it back into the room.

That happens because the smell is not on the surface. Smoke particles are small enough to get into porous material and into the parts of a building nobody cleans, so wiping the room the fire was in treats the least of it.

  • We work for you, not the insurance

We look for where the odor is living before we treat anything. That is usually the HVAC system, the wall cavities and the soft material in rooms the fire never reached.

  • We dry it and we rebuild it

What can be cleaned gets cleaned, and what cannot gets sealed so the smell has nowhere to come back from. Painting over untreated smoke traps it rather than removing it.

  • Free estimate, any hour of any day

We are an IICRC certified firm, and the same crew handles the cleaning and any repairs that follow, so nobody hands the job to a second contractor halfway through.

Where the smell is actually coming from

A room can look finished and still smell. These are the places the odor hides, and each one needs a different answer.

  1. The HVAC system, in rooms the fire never reached

Smoke travels on the air, so the system that moves air through the building moves it everywhere. Soot settles on the coil and inside the ducts, and the smell comes back every time the system runs. Cleaning the burned room and leaving the system loaded is why odor returns weeks later.

  2. Soft material that was never in the fire

Carpet, underlay, curtains, upholstery and clothing hold smoke long after hard surfaces are clean. Some of it can be treated in place and some has to leave the building to be dealt with properly, and knowing which is which is most of the job.

  3. Inside the wall and behind the trim

Smoke moves into cavities through outlets, switch plates and gaps at the baseboard, then sits there in the insulation. Sealing a wall that still holds smoke is how a smell survives a full repaint, which is why we open and treat before anything is closed up.

What happens when you call

Our smoke odor removal process

Odor work runs in the same five steps as any other job here, with one difference: the assessment matters more than usual. The smell tells you it is there and not where it is coming from, so the first visit is spent finding the source rather than treating the room.

  1. Response

The call is answered any hour. The first questions are what burned, how long ago, and which rooms smell now, because odor that has had months to settle is a different job from odor two days old.

  2. Assessment

We work out where the smell is living. That means the HVAC system, the cavities, and the soft material in rooms well away from the fire, not just the room that burned.

  3. Mitigation & Containment

What cannot be saved comes out, because it is easier to remove a source than to treat one. Containment keeps the work from moving odor into clean parts of the building.

  4. Cleaning & Drying

Surfaces are cleaned rather than wiped, the system is dealt with, and anything the fire was put out with is dried. Wet material left in a building after a fire adds its own smell to the one already there.

  5. Restoration & Repairs

What could not be cleaned is sealed before anything is closed up or painted, and then the room goes back together. Sealing is the step that stops the smell surviving the repaint.

FAQ

Smoke odor removal questions we get asked

Why does the smoke smell come back after everything was cleaned?

Because the source was not treated. Surfaces get cleaned and the room reads finished, but if the HVAC system, the wall cavities or the soft material still hold smoke, the smell returns as soon as the air moves or the weather warms up. Finding the source is the whole job.

Can you remove smoke odor without gutting the room?

Often, yes. Hard surfaces clean up, ducts can be treated, and sealing handles what cleaning cannot reach. Some soft material has to leave, and we will tell you which at the estimate rather than after the work starts.

Is smoke odor removal covered by insurance?

It is normally part of the fire claim rather than a separate one. We document the odor work the same way as the rest of the loss and bill your insurer directly where your policy and carrier allow it, so it goes on the file with everything else.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. We come out, tell you what we find and what the job involves, at no cost and with nothing owed if you decide not to go ahead. Nothing starts until you say so.
